Spring and Summer Shoe Delights

I don't know about you, but I'm having a serious problem where Spring and Summer shoes are concerned - I love them all and can't seem to stop buying them. One amazing shoe comes out after the other in all categories from flip flops and slides to sneakers and sandals. But currently, my biggest crushes are on espadrille wedges like THESE by Michael Kors and peep toe booties with stacked block heels like THESE by Tahari or THESE by Vince Camuto.

What's great about both of these shoe styles is first, their versatility (which I'm big on) in that you can wear them with ANYTHING. They work sundresses, rompers, jeans, slacks, skirts, and even the shortest of shorts.

Wearing a high heel can be tricky, and even risky, when it comes to shorts or short skirts. But do not fear wearing your favorite 4-inch peep toe bootie or wedge with your barely there bottoms, they will look amazing paired together. And they make legs look beautiful by elongating them and even giving beautiful shape to the quads and calves - BONUS!

The second great thing is both peep toe bootie and wedge styles tend to be ridiculously comfortable (I'm big on this too) no matter how high the heel. I've yet to try on a pair in either style that I considered no-go's due to discomfort.

There are so many different color options, heel heights, designs, and fabrics in both peep toe booties and espadrille wedges. Most options currently on trend aren't too expensive. But you can bet, if they are pricey, there are some great dupes out there waiting for the taking.

I linked all of my favorites below for you. Most of them, you will find, are great shoes at an affordable price. And for the ones that are a little pricier, I linked my favorite dupes for those. Happy shoe shopping! - Jill xoxo

Spring 2017 Transition Favorites ~ I Can Top That!

Hey there, all, happy Friday to you! I can't say how happy I am to greet the weekend. It's been a long week with long work days/nights. All good stuff, but, I'm looking forward to sleeping in late Saturday AND Sunday. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate for some outdoor activities. My last beach day was two hours of high winds and sand in the face.

I hope you all had an awesome week and that Spring is finally in full bloom for you. But, we all know that Mother Nature is pretty indecisive and frequently changes her mind about warming up each year during Spring, as we've certainly seen this year.

In the last few years, we've experienced weather warm enough for shorts and sweater retirement in as early as March as well as a Spring that doesn't allow for certainty of no snow again as late as the beginning of May. This is exactly why I'm posting about transition toppers, why they're needed, and are staple pieces needed in all wardrobes.

Because the weather is unpredictable in early Spring with a mix of warm and cool days and typically chilly nights, you need transition top layers to add that aren't too bulky and heavy. In fact, most of my favorite transition toppers can be worn year-round, and ALL are classic staples that you need in your closet. A couple of these toppers may fade slightly in trend from year to year, but you can rest assured that they'll always make a comeback.

The five wardrobe staple transition toppers are:

  1. Trench Coat
  2. Black Blazer
  3. Cargo Jacket
  4. Leather/Suede Jacket
  5. Classic Blue Denim Jacket

If you're starting to build a new wardrobe or style edit your existing one and are missing all five toppers, I suggest narrowing down to three and you can always add the other two later:

What I'm wearing: Trench Coat (Similar and Similar)  //  Faux Suede Dress  //  Nude Heels  // Beaded Bracelets  //  Gold Cuff Bracelet //  Gold & Silver Watch  //  Gold Band //  Hair Styling Tool  //  New Favorite Foundation  //  New Favorite Nail Polish

THE TRENCH COAT - This one, in my opinion, is the most important of the toppers. It's great for all seasons, rain or shine, and can be worn dressy like my look here with a pretty Spring dress and heels or casually with your favorite ripped jeans and v-neck tee for Sunday brunch.

I recommend buying a trench in khaki, gray, light olive, light brown because these colors are great for any season. I'm not crazy about black, dark olive, or dark brown for Spring and Summer unless specifically styled and purchased for an event or worn in the evening. I'd also stay away from trendy colors unless, of course, you already have a neutral-colored trench and want to add a brighter colored trench for fun. And for those of you who love pink, like me, light and blush pinks are considered neutrals!

What I'm wearing: Black blazer  //  Red Cold Should Top //  White Denim Cropped Jeans  // Espadrille Wedges  // Gold Choker  //  Leopard Clutch  //  Gold & Silver Watch  //  Hair Styling Tool //  New Favorite Foundation  //  New Favorite Nail Polish

THE BLACK BLAZER - This versatile topper, like the trench, will never go out of style. Top off a graphic tee, jeans, sneakers or loafers with this piece for a chic and comfy look. Or pair it with an LBD and heels for an interview or day at the office. It's even cute with cropped denim jeans, bright blouse, and some fun wedges like my look. You'll be perfectly attired for casual Friday at the office and happy hour following.

One important note is to be sure and stick with a simple, classic black blazer. Avoid any with cuts or details making it somewhat of a trendy piece. You can always add your own personal style edit with accessories like brooches, pocket squares, or scarves that are trending at that particular time.

What I'm wearing:  Cargo Jacket  //  Cold Shoulder Rocker Tee  //  White Denim Skirt  // Booties//  Gold Buckle Belt  //  Crystal Choker  //  Gold & Silver Watch  //  Gold Bracelet  //  Beaded Bracelet Stack (3)  //  New Favorite Foundation  //  New Favorite Nail Polish

THE CARGO JACKET - This is my absolute favorite topper of all. You've seen me wearing my olive green cargo jacket off and on since last Fall, and it's not going anywhere. I paired it here with my favorite rocker tee and skirt, but this cargo jacket goes with everything. It's great styled with cutoff denim shorts, a tank, and booties, sandals, or sneakers. Take your favorite leggings, tee, sneakers, and throw it on for the perfect travel or Saturday errands outfit.

You don't see these go off trend completely like the denim jacket. You may not find them in every store, but you'll definitely find a few. A neutral tone cargo jacket in olive green is my favorite color choice, but khaki, light brown, gray or washed blue are great too. The cargo jacket can cover the bases for both denim and leather jackets. They're often more cost-effective, and their lighter weight lends them to be a better year-round option versus the seasonal-limited leather jacket.

These three toppers: the trench coat, black blazer, and cargo jacket can be worn all year, dressed up or down, and can be found, always, at good price points. Adding different accessories, a great skirt, shorts, or pair of jeans, a fabulous little black dress, a cool graphic tee, and, of course, some killer shoes to these toppers gives you so many fun options for looks and flavors in style. Get your topper on! - Jill xoxo

Spring Into Pink!

Monday again? Yep! How does the weekend fly by so quickly? I always say we should change the rules - 5 day weekend, 2 day work week! Why not?!

I hope you had a great weekend and awesome start to this week! My weekend was busy and today was busier. I feel like I didn't have a chance to catch my breath since last Friday! The madness never ends! (a good madness that I wouldn't trade for anything)

When I was invited by Julie Brown NYC to collaborate on a post and received THIS dress, I couldn't wait to share it with you because it fits amazingly and sings Spring if ever!

It's made of the softest, lightweight faux suede. The bright pink is fun and the faux suede adds some flirty - the perfect combo in my opinion. And an added cherry on top of the cherry on top of the whip cream - the A-line design of this dress is flattering on all body types!

Because the dress is the star of the show, I chose to pair it nude accessories like THESE orTHESEstrappy nude heels and THIS or THIS bag. I thought a bold, but not too bold, statement necklace like THIS one was just enough. I did add a little arm candy, linked below. But you could keep this as simple as can be and add a pearl necklace and bracelet or forego the necklace and maybe wear a thin, dainty silver or gold bracelet and nothing more.

With Easter coming up in just a couple of weeks, THIS dress would be a terrific choice for your Sunday plans. It would also work for bridal or baby showers, an upcoming vacation, luncheon, or even to brighten up the drabbest of offices.

Please be sure to check out this dress by clicking on any image below or visiting Julie Brown NYC by clicking HERE. They have the cutest line of rompers, blouses, cardigans, shorts, tanks, and many more dress styles in several different prints and colors - awesome colors on trend for Spring and Summer 2017.

It's such a fun collection; the only problem you're going to face is narrowing down which pieces to buy. Have fun filling up that shopping cart! - Jill xoxo
