I must admit, I wasn't ever big on ruffles. My mom forced them on me from as young as I can remember. For special holidays and big events, I had to wear dresses with layers of ruffles. The can cans that I wore under them were full of even more ruffles. I felt like a big cream puff walking around in them. I just wanted to dress like the tomboy that I was.
Still today, I'm a bit of a tomboy at heart, but I do like to fem it up and be girlie from time to time. And now, I actually like a ruffle which is a big surprise to me and may be to some of you who know me well. But, I prefer understated ruffles and nothing too outrageous. Anything too big and over-the-top is beyond my comfort zone. In this look, even though I 'm wearing a blouse in Poppy Red, a bold color, the bottom hem and sleeve ruffles aren't too much.
Ruffles are on trend now and will continue to be during the Spring and Summer seasons. Peplum, ruffle hem, ruffle sleeved tops are all popular right now. There are a lot of options to choose from to find those that suit your own personal tastes and style. If you've never been comfortable with the idea of ruffles but are thinking of giving them a try, there are so many cute long and short-sleeved tees with bottom ruffle hems or basic tops with simple ruffle sleeves in every store. Either of these options is a good place to start and ease you into the trend.
